Beginning this summer, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through its Office of Criminal Investigations, launched a criminal probe to investigate the vaping-related lung illnesses that have affected over five hundred people across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a parallel investigation tracking the incidences of the illness.

According to The New York Post , the increasing number illnesses allegedly linked to vaping have prompted a lot of wary customers to drift away from THC vape products. Although there are many ways to consume cannabis, vaping accounts for about 23% of the market and – until now – is the fastest-growing consumption method.

On June 25, 2019, Governor JB Pritzker signed into law a revision of the Illinois Cannabis Control Act, 720 ILCS 550.1 et seq. Commencing January 1, 2020, Illinois residents will be authorized to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis for usage as they desire. Non-residents do not have the same exception from the criminal penalties. Non-residents are limited to 15 grams.

Chiang Mai News reports… Police in Chiang Mai armed with an arrest warrant detained a husband and wife for the illegal production and distribution of cannabis oil online. Cash in the sum of 3.4 million baht was found at their home. The arrests followed complaints from the family of a cancer patient who took the oil but died. Pol Maj-gen Phichet Jiranantasin led the raid along with Saraphi district officers at a house in Chomphu sub-district.

Severe thunderstorms – showering golf ball-sized hail – rolled through nearly five hundred acres of farmland, severely damaging the hemp crops in its path. The Bangkok Post reports. The country’s largest lot of 12,000 cannabis sprouts has been planted in Maejo University’s medical-grade greenhouse, thought to be the first-ever industrial-scale medical cannabis manufacturing facility in the Asean region. They were planted with the aim of producing one million bottles containing five millilitres each of cannabis oil for patients in need by next February.

According to a new study published by the journal Schmerz and reported on by NORML, the administration of oral THC (dronabinol) safely and effectively reduces pain in geriatric patients. For the study, which was published by the National Institute of Health, researchers assessed the use of dronabinol in the elderly (over 80 years of age) subjects with chronic pain.

With a court-ordered deadline to legalize recreational cannabis in Mexico approaching next month, parliamentarians have no fewer than 10 proposed laws to scrutinize. Mexico would become the third country in the world to legalize adult-use cannabis, after Uruguay and Canada. Mexico has over a month to legalize recreational cannabis, with 10 proposed laws in the mix.

An order clarifying legal protections for certain District employees who consume marijuana while away from the job was officially signed into law Tuesday by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. According to NORML, the new rules apply to all District government agencies under the direct administrative authority of the Mayor. Under the rules, many would-be employees will no longer face pre-employment drug screenings.

In a historic decision, a U.S. appeals court on Friday said the federal law requiring that workers be paid a minimum wage and overtime applies to employees in the marijuana industry. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Colorado said the protections in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) apply to “all workers,” regardless of whether the business they are engaged in is illegal under federal law, reports Reuters.
