Group to begin work on Alabama’s new medical cannabis program

The 14 people who will oversee Alabama’s new medical marijuana program will gather for the first time Thursday. The panel faces several deadlines to set up the rules to launch what will be a fully intrastate program. The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission, created by legislation that passed in May, will meet at 1 p.m.

Wait, Tennessee has a medical cannabis program? The Evolution of Tennessee’s Medical Cannabis Program. In 2014, the state passed SB 2531 which was the state’s first CBD-focused law. This is news to me. I’m a native of Tennessee. In 2016, the law was once again reformed to allow up to 0.9% Sickle cell disease.

In the 2022 legislative session, there were two cannabis bills introduced: one would decriminalize possession of up to three ounces of cannabis and the other would create a medical cannabis program, however, these are not expected to see movement until 2023 at the earliest.
