4th of July celebrations are full of themes of personal freedoms: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. But for millions of Americans, we are left out of the American promise because of our medicine.

Project CBD recently reported on studies indicating that cannabis terpenes — the compounds that give the plant its robust and distinctive smell — activate the CB1 cannabinoid receptor. What’s more, in the presence of THC (also a CB1 agonist), terpenes appear to modulate cannabinoid activity in varied and interesting ways. 1,2 Today we focus on spicy-peppery beta-caryophyllene (BCP), one of the most common cannabis terpenes, which acts on several targets that impact the endocannabinoi

The U.S. cannabis industry is still in its infancy, even though states began engaging with legalization in one form or another in the late 1990s. Today, many opportunities exist for individuals and businesses that want to engage in the industry. Some want to directly own licensed businesses, while others prefer to keep the industry at an arm’s length and merely profit from it.

As a co-director of Cannabis Advocacy for the US Pain Foundation and a medical cannabis patient living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I can’t imagine continuing the fight for my rights without the leadership and support of Americans for Safe Access.

Pain, anxiety, and sleep are major drivers of medical cannabis use. But gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea and upset stomach, aren’t far behind. 1 Even small doses of cannabis can soothe the stomach and stimulate the appetite. In fact, of the four cannabis-derived drugs approved so far by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, three are prescribed for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

Last month, major Canadian cities announced Canada Day cancellations or reduced festivities, such as no fireworks. The rationale is due to Canada’s history of racism and colonialism. So, instead of empowering disenfranchised minorities and encouraging them to be part of the Canadian experience, politicians want to ban Canada Day celebrations altogether.
Some of you may know me through the cannabis industry, but you may not know what brought me here and how Americans for Safe Access changed my family’s lives. In 2010, my family’s life was turned upside down when my son Logan began suffering from uncontrolled seizures. Doctors could not help him, and we felt powerless. We learned online about parents successfully utilizing cannabis treatments; many of them were moving their families to states with medical cannabis programs.

Cannabis is supposed to be relaxing and fun. What’s not to like about giggles, munchies, and a brief break from the mundane? Unfortunately, the news from California’s Emerald Triangle is anything but upbeat these days. Report after report portends doom with headlines like “the world’s largest legal weed market is going up in smoke ” (The Economist), “California pot industry facing ‘ extinction event ‘” (SF Gate), and “ Despair in Emerald Triangle as CA legal cannabis collapses” (CalM

Do high THC levels cause psychosis? That’s been the mantra of the modern cannabis temperament movement. Since cannabis can’t cause a fatal overdose and appears relatively benign (compared to most pharmaceutical drugs), public health busybodies had to find a new angle. Ergo, high THC levels cause psychosis. This isn’t your grandparent’s cannabis, they tell us.
I’m writing this in desperation. The organization I care so much about, and volunteer my time for, Americans for Safe Access (ASA), is in desperate need of support! ASA is the only national medical cannabis patient organization that is working towards protecting patients. ASA has and continues to do so much work to bring both access to medical cannabis patients, while also trying to help educate the public.

In less than 24 hours, Maryland’s adult-use industry will launch. I will make my first adult-use cannabis purchase tomorrow morning at Trulieve in Rockville, Maryland. I will not be surprised if I cry when that bag is handed to me. That moment has been decades in the making.
There are a lot of factors that go into a successful cannabis grow and one of the most important is the lights. Choosing the right lights for your grow room is a critical decision every business and every home grower must make. So how do you sort through the options and choose the best grow light for you? Is cannabis a placebo? What does that even mean? A placebo is traditionally a pill that has no active ingredients. Drug researchers will split test subjects into a group that receives the actual substance and another group that gets a placebo, or “sugar pill.” If the group receiving the real substance does better than the placebo group, the researchers conclude the medicine works.

There’s some classic Orwellian doublespeak in this press release. We especially like the bit that says.INCB’s work supports Member States in achieving the health and welfare objectives of the drug control conventions. Nothing better, we say, than furthering empowering the black market for ensuring health outcomes. As we say every year.
Graphic warnings on cannabis packaging have to be the dumbest idea in the world. Canadian legalization already has a problem with the continued existence of the “illicit market.” The government arbitrarily caps edibles. They also increase the costs of production through unnecessary regulatory hurdles. The plain-packaging rules harm producers trying to differentiate their products from others.
