Illinois bill addressing odor-proof containers passes committee

Earlier today, Illinois Senate Bill 0042 passed the Judiciary-Criminal Committee and now returns to the House floor for a second reading and more debate. SB0042, sponsored by Sen. Rachel Ventura , removes the requirement that cannabis within any area of a motor vehicle must be in an odor-proof container. This minor change of wording in the Vehicle Code could have bigger implications for future Illinois Supreme Court rulings.

The Illinois Department of Revenue today posted a notice for all dispensaries engaged in the business of selling adult use cannabis at retail in taxing jurisdictions that have enacted Municipal or County Cannabis Retailers Occupation Taxes. Effective July 1, 2025, certain taxing jurisdictions have, by ordinance, imposed or changed their Municipal or County Cannabis Retailers Occupation Tax on the gross receipts from sales of adult use cannabis.
