Drug company Lykos Therapeutics, which had filed the new drug application for MDMA therapy , was informed by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the data submitted was insufficient to receive approval, requesting that the company conduct an additional Phase 3 trial to further test the safety and efficacy of the drug.

According to the MAPS website they are “working to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of smoked botanical marijuana as a prescription medicine for specific medical uses to the satisfaction of the U.S. On December 17, 2014, MAPS was awarded a $2 million grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to complete the study.

The language in the 2014 Farm Bill classified hemp as cannabis with less than 0.3% This change shouldn’t affect most hemp farmers who have no interest in cultivating psychoactive plants; however, it does remove a safety net. The USDA said they will provide a list of DEA-registered labs on their website, but nothing has been posted yet.
