Kief is the nickname given to trichomes when they fall off of cannabis. Kief is commonly collected inside of the bottom of grinders and also accumulates in containers used for storing cannabis. Kief is also collected by trichome farmers that use sleeves or mesh screens to capture cannabis trichomes.

These remnants often contain plenty of trichomes , which is where cannabinoids and terpenes are produced and stored. Over time, those scraps collect, and if they come from a high-quality cultivar, can be great addition to to a joint or a bowl. You can find shake at dispensaries and usually at a lower price point.

While I may complain about a lack of infused baked goods at Illinois dispensaries, there’s no shortage of strains named after baked goods. ILNJ photo Small rounded olive-green popcorn-sized buds were covered with a milky trichome frost. I recently stopped in at Star Buds Burbank where Kaviar had recently added Biscotti to its lineup.

As part of the 420 celebrations, Sunnyside dispensaries in Illinois are offering for a limited time discounted Cresco products via The 420 Collection. So I stopped of at Sunnyside Champaign and picked up four samples from the collection, including this Slurricrasher eighth.

Sunnyside dispensaries are continuing their 420 Collection deals until April 30, so I picked up from Sunnyside Champaign an eighth of Face Mints. Multiple shades of green hid beneath bunches of fire orange hairs and a milky sparkling trichome frost. Though 4/20 may have passed, some holiday-inspired deals are still available.

While they are not a source of trichomes, terpenes, or cannabinoids, they still serve a crucial purpose in the plant’s anatomy. They are typically covered in a layer of trichomes and packed with cannabinoid content near the end of the flowering stage of cultivation. It is also where pollen is collected from male marijuana plants.
