Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that a pretty historic announcement was made last week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS officially recommended that marijuana be rescheduled from Schedule I to Schedule III of the federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The HHS news means that the country’s top health agency has finally conceded that cannabis has medical value, and isn’t a drug of abuse on par with fentanyl or heroin.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently released its August 2023 medical cannabis sales totals. In August, dispensaries served the exact same amount of patients as the previous month but with lower overall sales numbers, continuing a downward trend since March 2023. August 2023 medical cannabis sales reached $26,455,398.18. Concentrates/infused products accounted for $13,878,977.35 of the total sales, which cooled off from previous months with similar totals.
