Creso Pharma’s (CPH) subsidiary, Halucenex, is being awarded a dealer’s licence in Canada, allowing it to advance its clinical trial plans. Health Canada awarded Halucenex Life Sciences a Controlled Drugs and Substances Dealer’s Licence on August 11. The licence allows the business to possess, sell, and carry out research on psychedelic substances including psilocybin, ketamine, LSD and MDMA.

The California Supreme Court ruled this week that inmates in the state prison system do not have a right to possess marijuana under Proposition 64, the landmark 2016 ballot initiative that legalized cannabis in the state. The ruling overturns a lower court decision in 2019 that found that prisoners could possess marijuana but could not smoke or otherwise ingest it while behind bars.

This week was a reminder about the dangers of investing in the SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Corp) boom. Many of these companies went public based on wild promises about growth and profits. Things were never going to go as smoothly as the investor decks promised, but for a time, the stocks did well.

Prescriptions for medicinal cannabis have almost doubled in the past year but industry leaders say uptake is still hampered by the social stigma of the drug and lack of training for doctors. The Therapeutic Goods Administration approved 10,755 cannabis prescriptions in July, up from 5,564 in July 2020. The approvals were under Category B of the special access scheme, the main pathway for doctors to prescribe medicinal cannabis for management of chronic illness and pain relief.

What the INCB suggests poses a serious risk to cannabis as it has neither a mandate, nor expertise whatsoever on cannabis medicines, hemp, hemp products, or cultivation.
