Medical : Illegal Recreational : Illegal *CBD products are legal in Japan, as long as they contain no THC whatsoever and are not made from cannabis flower. In 2019, Japan approved clinical trials for Epidiolox — a cannabis derived medicine used to treat severe forms of childhood epilepsy such as Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes.

The medication, developed by GW Pharmaceuticals, will be used in combination with another epilepsy medication called clobazam. Recreational use of cannabis remains illegal.
