In 2004, cannabis was reclassified as a class C drug but was reinstated to Class B in 2008 following Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s decision to go against the advice offered up by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. . Medical use was legalized in 2008, but as in other European countries , the products available on prescription are limited. Cannabis bud is still not available for medical consumption. According to this article on History.com, in the late 1800s cannabis extracts (oils) were commonly sold in doctors’ offices and in pharmacies as an aid for patients “with stomach problems and other ailments.”.
