Germany has plans to introduce cannabis to citizens, Maryland is creating a new psychedelic task force to study potential legalization, and Alaskans are considering psychedelics as an innovative new treatment for mental health issues.

Follow along as we catch up on all of the cannabis and psychedelic news you may have missed last week.

Germany To Finally Legalize Marijuana

In a historic move, Germany is finalizing plans to legalize recreational cannabis. They also want to allow for home cultivation and cannabis social clubs, which would allow people to come together and enjoy marijuana in catered public spaces. Additionally, the legal possession limit has been raised from 25 grams to 50 grams of cannabis.

The legalization of cannabis possession and cultivation will take effect on April 1st, 2024, and the establishment of clubs will begin around July 1st, 2024. There is still legwork to be done on the specifics, particularly regarding the consequences of possession over the legal limits.

Since cannabis is still a prohibited substance per the European Union (EU), this is a move that could have major implications for other countries on the continent. We’re excited to see the changes that this could lead to for Germans and beyond.

Maryland Creates Psychedelic Task Force

As psychedelic reform begins to sweep the nation, more and more individual states are starting to take notice. The latest is Maryland, which is creating a specialized psychedelic task force to study the potential legalization and regulation of psychedelics in the state.

Their goal is to create a system supporting statewide online sales of natural psychedelic substances with a home delivery service. The task force will also draw support from current members of the Maryland Cannabis Administration. They want to ensure responsible access to natural psychedelic substances while also mitigating risks and barriers to access within the healthcare system.

An increasing number of studies are highlighting the potential benefits of psychedelics as a treatment for mental health issues, so this could end up being an incredible move for state residents.

Alaskans Turn To Psychedelics To Treat Mental Health Disorders

Much like Maryland, Alaska is also creating a task force to look at the potential ramifications of legalizing psychedelics for mental health care.

The task force will have a year-long period to examine how psychedelics could play a role in the current mental health crisis. It will also examine health insurance, licensing requirements, and regulations of the medicine. Psychedelics have been shown to improve symptoms of depression, an issue Alaskans face due to their solar cycle periods where they have sun all day or no sun at all. This causes Seasonal Affective Disorder and seasonal depression. Many Alaskans believe that psychedelic use can alleviate the symptoms of these disorders.

Much like Maryland, only time will determine the future of psychedelic reform in Alaska.
