Choosing the proper pot for cultivating cannabis is important. Cannabis will grow in virtually any size pot or container. Cannabis plants can be grown to maturity in a Solo cup or pots ranging from 1 gallon up to 100 gallons. There are plastic pots, and there are fabric pots. So, how do you choose which pot is right to grow pot?
There are many different factors to consider when you decide to dig into the world of cannabis cultivation. For someone new to growing cannabis, it can seem like a lot. Cannabis got the nickname weed because it grows like a weed. With that in mind, it doesn’t always grow the way you want it to. There will be loads of trials and tribulations that new growers will face.
Some people have what it takes to cultivate some amazing cannabis. Other people, well, let’s just say, they don’t have a green thumb. When it comes to cannabis cultivation, the pot you choose for growing pot is crucial. In order to choose the proper pot, you will need to be clear on what result you are looking to achieve.
What Pot For Cultivating Cannabis is Best?
Cannabis plants can grow in a wide variety of different pots and containers. They also grow directly in the ground. The size of the container you choose to cultivate cannabis in determines the size of the end result. If you are growing a cannabis plant to maturity in a red Solo cup, you will end up with a much smaller harvest than if you were growing in a 5-gallon pot or fabric pot.
Some people prefer to grow cannabis in black plastic pots, some prefer 5-gallon buckets, and others opt for fabric pots. Some even use small storage tubs to cultivate cannabis. The larger the area you have for the roots of a cannabis plant, the larger the plant can grow. A cannabis plant grown inside of a solo cup is able to grow through the vegetation stage and reach maturity during the flowering cycle. Most times, these cannabis plants produce one small to large bud.
1-gallon pots can be used much in the way the Solo cup is. The difference here is a larger yield. If your space is restricted and you choose this option, expect a small yield. If grown properly, though, you can expect good quality. However, many people choose to grow in larger containers than that of Solo cups or 1-gallon pots.
Four and five-gallon pots are the most commonly used planters for indoor cannabis cultivation. A 5-gallon plastic pot is slightly smaller than a 5-gallon fabric pot. The fabric pot is wider and a little shorter. Growers who choose fabric pots over traditional plastic ones say that the root system grows better in fabric pots.
Fabric pots allow air to reach the root system of cannabis plants more efficiently. Oxygen to the roots is extremely essential for the healthy growth of cannabis plants. Oxygen plays a very important role in the cultivation of cannabis plants. In particular, the roots of cannabis plants depend on an oxygen-rich environment. When this is achieved, roots have healthier tips and maintain higher levels of mass. In return, this allows for more metabolic energy that’s required for nutrient uptake.

Consider These Factors When Choosing a Pot for Cultivating Cannabis
When it comes to choosing the right pot for cultivating cannabis, consider a few things. Are you looking for quantity or quality, or both? How much space do you have to grow in? Will you be growing indoors or outdoors? How many plants will you be growing? Perhaps one of the most important things to think about is the space you will be growing in. Many people choose the route of growing indoors using grow tents or special grow rooms.
The common four or five-gallon pots used to grow cannabis produce beautiful results indoors. For example, a 5-gallon pot allows sufficient room for most cannabis plants to achieve good height and bushiness. Roots also have enough space to grow and reach a healthy mass in a 5-gallon pot.
If you are growing in a Solo cup or other small pot, you may face challenges with both nutrient deficiencies and proficiencies. Too many nutrients are a bad thing, and not enough isn’t good either. Smaller containers can be more difficult for cultivation than larger ones.
Grow Method Matters for Cannabis Cultivation
In a typical 4×4 grow tent, you can grow an average of between one to 12 plants comfortably. One plant can be grown and produce as many as 12, depending on who’s doing the growing. There is a method known as the sea of green or SOG for short and a method known as a screen of green or SCROG. When the SCROG technique is used, a grower will typically go with a large pot such as a five-gallon one or more. When growing one to four plants in this method, larger pots are preferred.
The sea of green technique typically uses smaller pots so as to get as many plants in a 4×4 area as possible. This means that growers put anywhere between 12 to 16 plants in the same area. In no time at all, this area will become a sea of green. For this method, smaller potters such as 5 gallons and under are the preferred choice.
If you want to grow a bonsai cannabis plant, obviously, you will want a small container so as to slow the growth of roots, in return slowing the growth of your plant. If you’re looking to grow a cannabis plant that you can picnic under, you’ll want the biggest container you can get, such as a raised outdoor flower bed.
Growing Cannabis is Therapeutic Too
Cannabis plants are very therapeutic and hold a multitude of medicinal values. Their therapeutic properties go beyond just the medicinal values of the plants themselves. People find joy in cultivating cannabis as much as some do in the consumption of it.
Cannabis is a plant that reaches maturity rather quickly. With a little bit of knowledge and the right information, someone can learn how to cross different varieties of cannabis to create new ones. These results can be seen within a few months’ time versus a few years time that it takes with many flowers, fruits, and vegetables. When it comes to cannabis cultivation picking the right pot to grow your pot means a lot. Know before you grow so that you can cultivate success.
