News Joint Grow Journal 45: Putang BX by Bad Dawg Genetics
For the second straight grow journal, I’m highlighting another strain, Putang BX, with a close connection to our A Friend Indeed (AFI) program. I decided to run Putang BX because it’s the strain I have gifted the most to Veterans and the most in-stock strain we still have to give, and I wanted to be able to accurately explain to Veterans what Putang BX offers.
Putang BX is a collaborative cross of Mass Medical Strains’ Putang (Tangie x Star Pupil) and Bad Dawg Genetics’ Run Away Bride #3 (PuTang x Cake Fighter). Great Lakes Genetics, as one of our most gracious sponsors, gifted the abundance of seeds, along with many other crosses, to the AFI program, and we could not be more thankful.
From seedling to flower, Putang BX needed no extra attention and grew symmetrical throughout. During the vegetative stage, I FIM topped the plant but didn’t do that good of a job. Instead of cutting with scissors, I tried ripping the tops with my fingers, and think I grabbed too high. I low-stress trained the branches throughout vegetation and, as always, performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques about a week before flipping to flower.
While flowering, Putang BX stretched an extra 4-5 nodes with bright green flowers and white pistils reaching out. In early development, the green buds darkened, some pistils turned orange, and trichomes came earlier than expected. Then one day, I left for an event, and when I came home the following day, the leaves started turning purple. A dark purple eventually overcame the leaves, and the pistils turned rust color.
The aroma of the plant while growing gave off a sweet orange citrus and lacquer. The aroma carried over to the dry. The inside of the buds were dense but loosened toward the outside of the bud. The cure added more sour pine, cherry, and floral citrus to the sweet orange. The flavor matched the aroma and led with cherry and the sweet orange citrus with added floral, mint, sour kush, creamy lacquer, and gas back notes.
The effects landed in the slightly sativa spectrum with a strong head and body high. With lower doses, the effects were energetic, creative, curious, and euphoric. With heavier doses, the mind can get caught in thoughtlock and/or thought rambling. The quick onset body buzz provided an overall relaxation but also added a floating weightlessness.
The strain seemed to fit any smoking occasion and delivered an overall happy but heavy head and body highs. Whether dosing during the day or evening or night, Putang BX fit into the needs of those times, and the flavor profile really shines through when smoking a tasty joint. Stay tuned for more entries from News Joint Grow Journal 6.0, including three other strains: Golden Putang, Appleberry Crisp, and a cross of Tangie Haze x Oregon Lemon Diesel.
