Grow Journal 51: Super Lemon Pupil by Mass Medical Strains
Back with another strain from News Joint Grow Journal 7.0. For entry 51, I grew Super Lemon Pupil by Mass Medical Strains. Super Lemon Pupil is a sativa-leaning cross of Franco’s Cut of Super Lemon Haze and Star Pupil.
From a feminize seed picked up from Cool Beans Seed Bank, the Super Lemon Pupil grew vigorously as a seedling and throughout vegetation with a tall, think structure. I topped the plant early, which allowed for an open middle with long branched circled around. I low stressed trained the larger branches, but other than that, I left the plant alone because she didn’t need any attention throughout a healthy grow. A week before flipping the light cycle to flower, I performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques.
During vegetation, I used FloraFlex nutrients, sponsored its Midwest representative Seed Attics, for the full grow, which worked way better than switching nutrients halfway through, like my last grow. I expected a long stretch. Instead, the plant stretched only a few extra nodes, but the buds began thickening quicker than other plants in the tent. Most of the white pistils turned yellow, and throughout the flowering stage, the buds gained more and more colors—light to olive green with shades of purple and pistils ranging from yellow to dark orange. The aroma was lemon mixed with that classic haze and tangy skunk with back notes of sweet floral citrus. As with vegetation, the plant did not need much attention. I chopped day 64, and the thick dense buds delivered a medium-to-large yield. I dried the plant for 13 days and cured the buds in a mason jar for almost a month.
The flavor and effects leaned more toward the Super Lemon Haze than the Star Pupil. The flavor delivered that terpinolene lemon mix with the classic haze, pine, sweet skunk, and citrus with light pepper and floral back notes and exhale. Joints, for some reason, provided a heavy sweetness that clung to the rest of the flavors. The long-lasting mental effects were uplifting, cerebral, motivating but were countered balanced with a heavy-blanket body buzz. Super Lemon Pupil fit all but one of the elements needed to become a Work Sativa I consistently use. As with many haze strains, the mental focus was there at low doses, but at high doses, my thoughts wandered, and at times I became distracted. Instead of sit-down work, I mostly use the Super Lemon Pupil for busybody work, television binging, and gaming. Stay tuned for more entries from News Joint Grow Journal 7.0.
