Review: Sour Diesel by Rythm
The word “classic” is thrown around a lot in the genetic space. While a ton of fantastic and reliable cultivars are out there with decade plus histories, there are strains so famous that they’ve permeated not only cannabis culture but also the entire spectrum of American culture. Sour Diesel is that kind of defining strain. I recently picked up a gram from Rythm as part of the High Time Cannabis Cup Sativa Flower Kit.
Sour Diesel is a sativa-leaning hybrid cross of Chemdawg 91 and Super Skunk. This batch of flower tested at 0.58% THC, 20.71% THCa, and 21.3% total cannabinoids.
This gram of flower came as two small popcorn-sized buds with a bright-green coloring on both the flower and sugar leaf remnants and wispy bunches of fire-orange hairs reaching out from the flower surface. The buds were springy with a nerf football bounceback and left a hashy greasiness on my fingers after handling.
The aroma in the jar was a sharp and chemical blend of burnt orange terpinolene, hot diesel, salty brine, and fresh hops. The aroma became even more pointed and harsh out of the grinder with a hot chem note that tingled the nostrils. The flavor carried the sharpness well into the smoke, providing flavors of dense hops and diesel but also a surprising undertone of sharp vinegar. The flavor was very strong across the palate but dissipated quickly from the tongue.
This cut of Sour Diesel created a slow building experience that opened physically, with a tingling euphoric sensation that worked inward, starting at my hands and feet and moving into my core as the intensity grew. The headbuzz was heavily cerebral, placing a dreamy lens over my awareness that kept me from focusing on work but was a solid fit for playing around. My energy levels benefited the most and once the effects had fully unfolded the boost was akin to a cup of coffee.
