Review: Flying Monkeys by Bedford Grow
One of the best things about working in the world of cannabis is the playful cultivar names. Flying Monkeys from Bedford Grow gave me a chuckle as soon as I spotted it on the Maribis of Springfield menu. Flying Monkeys, along with Bedford Grow’s Emerald City Kush and Ruby Slippers strains, is a take on the shared parent: Oz Kush. I picked up a sample of the quarter ounce popcorn buds to check out The Wizard of Oz experience.
Flying Monkeys is an indica leaning hybrid cross of Gorilla Glue #4 and Oz Kush BX1. This batch of flower tested at 0.46% CBGa, 0.57% Delta-9-THC, 22.2% THCa, and 23.23% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 1.43% of the total weight with limonene, β-caryophyllene, β-myrcene, linalool, and α-humulene being the most prevalent.
This popcorn flowers were smaller than actual pieces of popcorn. These buds were turf green on the surface and light purple at the core with a sparkling, milky white trichome frost. There were no sugar leaf remnants left and these small buds had dried into tight, dense little nugs.
Inside the jar the aroma was bright with fresh lemon and lime zest, alongside cherry blossom and lavender and held up by some richer tones of leather, caramel, and musk. The flavor flips the aroma on its head with the leather and caramel tones taking up the inhale with a punch of sour citrus cleansing the palate on the exhale.
Flying Monkeys was a creeper, and it was almost 20 minutes before I noticed the heavy weight in my eyes and waves of tingles that set in. Mentally, Flying Monkeys was relaxing without becoming impairing with a versatile open headspace that made the strain good for any time of day.
The munchies hit me almost every time I smoked Flying Monkeys, a positive or negative aspect depending on your goals. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
