News Joint Grow Journal 44: Appleberry Crisp
Less than a week ago, Jon Colombini, a.k.a. Nachos & El Sapo, lost his fight against Leukemia (a battle my mother has recently stopped taking treatment for). Although I did not know Colombini personally, I knew he was a breeder and a United States Veteran because of our A Friend Indeed partnerships with other Veterans and breeders, one of whom gifted me Appleberry Crisp seeds to help feature Nachos & El Sapo’s gear. Along with the genetics, I would also like to highlight this GoFundMe fundraiser to help Colombini’s wife and children with funeral and memorial costs.
Appleberry Crisp is a cross of Apple Fritter (Lumpy’s cut) and Backshots ((Drunk Driver x London Pound Cake) x London Pound Cake). I popped two regular seeds and one was male. The female grew robust during the early and late vegetation stages, and overall I didn’t have any real problems from seedling to flower. Throughout all stages of the grow, I used sponsored GreenGro Biologicals nutrients, SLF-100, and Fish Shit. I flowered the Appleberry Crisp under a BlackBird from HLG.
The plant growth was symmetrical throughout the grow, and the Appleberry Crisp accepted low stress training without issues. During the middle of vegetation, I topped the plant, and I performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques twice, a few weeks apart, including when I also lollipopped the plant about a week before flipping to flower.
While flowering, the buds were spaced far apart and grew from small marbles to golf-ball-shaped buds that darkened sharply in color during the grow, and the leaves faded from green to a mix of dark fall colors. The aroma started out with a sweet-and-sour apple funk and added throughout the grow a savory sweet scent with earthy citrus, gas, and tart apple funk mixed in. The aroma has me excited about the potential flavor of this strain, which I anticipated to be extremely popular with flavor chasers.
With about a week left before chop, the plant has been easy to grow with little to no maintenance. The Appleberry Crisp strain should be a flavorful evening and night strain for me, and I’m looking forward to the full aroma and flavor after the chop, dry, and cure. Stay tuned for more entries from News Joint Grow Journal 6.0, including three other strains: Golden Putang, Putang BX, and a cross of Tangie Haze x Oregon Lemon Diesel.
