The College of the Redwoods
Has partnered with Humboldt County to create an online Cannabis Business program designed to assist cannabis businesses.
Through a partnership between the college and a county initiative Project Trellis, the courses cover marketing, business plans, human resources and grant writing.
If students cannot afford tuition, they can apply for a local equity program for a tuition grant. Upon completion of the courses, students receive a certificate.
City Colleges of Chicago, Olive-Harvey College
Has a Cannabis Dispensary Operations Specialist, Basic Certificate. There are courses in business, Cannabis law, and customer service operations. It prepares students for employment in a licensed Cannabis dispensary.
UC Davis Cannabis and Hemp Research Forums
Are monthly learning seminars on cultivation, diversity & equity, hemp genetics, and cannabinoid research. Zoom recordings of the seminars are available.
City College of San Francisco,
Not surprising, has a Cannabis Studies major. The major is focused on Behavioral Sciences. It looks at intersecting identities, geography, and historicity. Courses incorporate anthropology, biological psychology, and sociology. The degree is a gateway degree for students seeking study in related disciplines, specifically Anthropology, Psychology (and neuroscience), Sociology (and Social Work), Public Health, Criminal Justice, and Political Science/Theory.
Thoughts
Good education is critical to an emerging industry. As regulations, science, understanding, and protocols change, education must adapt. This column hopes to curate the educational offerings from the perspective of an academic. Ohio State University Moritz College of Law has compiled a list of Cannabis Law courses.
