The client is a global life sciences company specializing in the Canadian life sciences industry. 

About the Role

As Director of Business Development and Partnerships, you are responsible for leading and accelerating business analysis, sourcing, and deal flow activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong partnerships with academic centers, small companies, and translational groups to advance drug discovery projects towards transformative therapies
  • Lead awareness and analysis of industry intelligence to identify areas of fore sighting and potential investments
  • Conduct commercial due diligence of new opportunities whether originating from academia or SMEs
  • Identify the competitive landscape and position the technologies relative to the competition
  • Assess market potential and threats
  • Evaluate the path for commercialization, exit potential, and timelines
  • Recommend follow-on investment strategies
  • Develop business cases and plans for technologies under consideration
  • Represent the company in scientific, investor, and partnership-building conferences
  • Provide strategic and operational information to all stakeholders

 

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences with an MBA or other business training
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies demonstrating strong data mining and filtering skills
  • Experienced working with academia for technology transfer and research collaborations Experienced working with various types of investors including VC’s, Angel Investors, and Patient Advocacy Groups 
  • Adept at searching online databases (e.g. Global Data, PitchBook) to prepare competitive analysis assessments on new technologies
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fully bilingual in English and French
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to multi-task, manage multiple concurrent deliverables, and respond quickly to last-minute requests for information
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills along with the ability to interact with staff in all parts of the organization and a range of external partners
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated success in working and leading cross-functional internal and external teams
  • Self-motivated, organized, flexible, discrete with a sound understanding of confidentiality
