News Joint Grow Journal 47: Golden PuTang by Mass Medical Strains
I’m back with the fourth and last strain for News Joint Grow Journal 6.0. Golden PuTang is a sativa-leaning collaboration of Golden Pineapple (C99 and White Widow) by Green Bodhi and PuTang by Mass Medical Strains. Because of my love for energetic sativa, Cool Beans Seed Bank gifted these seeds to me as part of a sponsorship package for our A Friend Indeed program, which unexpectedly turned into the theme of the Grow Journal 6.0.
Almost everything I grow is what I consider Work Sativa, and Golden PuTang was on the list to try. From a seedling, Golden PuTang outgrew every other plant in the tent and was the most vigorous growing plant I’ve grown to date. During vegetation, I topped the plant three times to keep her relatively close in height with the other plants. During the first four weeks of flower, Golden PuTang stretched more than 3X. During all phases of the grow, Golden PuTang sucked up twice the water as the other plants.
While flowering, Golden PuTang’s aroma carried a floral funk, rotten citrus, and sharp skunk mixed with notes of pineapple, orange, cheese, and sweet diesel. The ripeness of the trichomes were difficult to judge the because some were clear while other already had amber heads, so I gave up on that and followed my intuition instead. I chopped the plant on day 67 of flower.
After topping several branches, the wide plant yielded the most flower of any plants in this grow journal (forgot to measure total at the end of the grow). The buds were long and pointy with a dense inside and a little fluffier outside. After curing for a few weeks, the aroma delivered most of what was offered during the grow but added orange citrus, especially on the exhale, and heavier notes of sharp gas, pineapple, cherry, skunk, and a sharp floral funk.
The effects fit well for our Work Sativa series, and after finding myself returning to Golden PuTang for work, I realized that Golden PuTang had become one of the top three Work Sativa strains I’ve grown and top ten of all strains I’ve smoked. Golden PuTang was a great change of aroma and flavor from my normal sweet mango-flavored Green Crack strain that is continuously in my work rotation.
The effects of Golden PuTang delivered the really strong cerebral head high that was clearheaded, stimulating, motivating, energetic, cheerful, and creative. One aspect I prefer for my Work Sativa is when the strain hits back if I smoke too much, and Golden PuTang definitely could stall out my thoughts for several seconds before I snapped back into the work groove. The body buzz, though not overwhelming, delivered a muscle relaxation that allowed me to finish several physical and/or mental tasks, or sit in my chair for hours without heavy pain. Golden PuTang also consistently boosted my appetite.
