Cannabis laws in Jordan have been a controversial topic in recent years. While some have advocated for the legalization of cannabis for medical or recreational purposes, others have opposed it. 

Recreational cannabis use is illegal in Jordan. Possession, sale, and cultivation of cannabis are all considered criminal offenses. If caught with cannabis, one could face up to 10 years in prison and a hefty fine.

However, enforcement of cannabis laws in Jordan has been inconsistent in the past. While some individuals have been arrested and prosecuted for cannabis-related offenses, others have gotten away with it. The government has recently been cracking down on cannabis use, and several high-profile arrests have been made.

Medical cannabis in Jordan

Medical cannabis use is also illegal in Jordan. However, in 2019, the Jordanian government announced its plans to conduct clinical trials on the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The trials involved using cannabis to treat certain conditions such as epilepsy, chronic pain, and cancer-related symptoms, and will hopefully pave the way for medical cannabis legalization in the future. 1

Hemp in Jordan

In 2018, the Jordanian government legalized the cultivation of industrial hemp for certain purposes, such as the production of textiles and building materials. However, the cultivation of hemp is strictly regulated, and farmers must obtain a license from the government before planting.

Bottom line on weed in Jordan

In conclusion, cannabis laws in Jordan are strict, with recreational and medical use being illegal. However, the government’s recent announcement of clinical trials on medical cannabis could be a sign of change in the future. While the legalization of cannabis for recreational use is still unlikely, the legalization of medical cannabis could provide relief for patients suffering from certain conditions.
