Review: Jelly Roll by Ivy Hall
While credible arguments can be made for many classic strains, I still believe the best way to drop a new label is with new genetics. Ivy Hall shares this belief, dropping three new cuts as part of the dispensary’s new flower rollout. I picked up all three to review at Ivy Hall Peoria and this is Jelly Roll.
Jelly Roll is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Jokerz 31 and Gastropop. This batch of flower tested at 0.75% THC, 24.23% THCa, and 26.18% total cannabinoids. The indicated terpenes were b-caryophyllene, limonene, and b-myrcene.
Five popcorn-sized buds carried a light-trichome frost on large deep-purple, almost-black sugar-leaf remnants that indicated the restrained hand trimming. These flowers were light with the large sugar leaves helping to provide some outer structure. This loose construction made for a dry to the touch exterior but the flower fluffed considerably after a run through the grinder.
The scent was earthy on the top with notes of forest floor and sharp pine. Fresher tones of jalapeno, lime peel, and peach helped to contrast the earthy front, while a herbal basil provided the finish. On the tongue, the forest floor earthiness and pine dominated, covering up the more delicate fruit and herb notes. The flavor was robust in the smoke but had little stickiness, leaving a clean palate after exhale.
Jelly Rolly created a hazy headspace that continued to build, hurting my focus and becoming cloudier over the following 30 minutes. A physical rush of vibrating euphoria crested by the 10-minute mark then became a pain relieving relaxation for the rest of the high. Jelly Roll leaned more towards center-spectrum hybrid than indica, leaving me calm but stopping short of relaxing me enough for sleep.
