Law enforcement stopped a Tanzanian man from setting up an informal shelter and subsequently found large quantities of drugs in his possession.

According to Alderman JP Smith, Cape Town’s Mayco member for safety and security, camera operators observed someone attempting to set up a new shelter in the CBD near the recently cleaned area of the castle.

Law enforcement officers intervened and noticed a startled individual hastily attempting to leave the scene.

Upon questioning, they found 24 units of heroin, eight mandrax tablets and three bags of tik in his possession.

The suspect, a Tanzanian foreign national, was arrested and handed over to Cape Town Central SAPS.
