Review: Refined Taste and Payton’s Pie Infused Prerolls by Bullet Train
Since I’ve started exploring more infused prerolls, I’m delighted to watch the list of choice expand. I recently discovered the Bullet Train Extracts line of live resin infused prerolls on the menu at Consume Marion and picked up samples of the new line to see how the offering from Justice Cannabis Co. stacked up against Illinois’ growing market of infused prerolls.
Refined Taste is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Jet Fuel Gelato and Pure Kush. This live resin infused preroll tested at 0.28% THC, 30.22% THCa, and 32.19% total cannabinoids. Payton’s Pie is a hybrid cross of Gary Payton and Georgia Pie. This live resin infused preroll tested at 0.6% THC, 46.19% THCa, and 50.68% total cannabinoids.
The scent from the Refined Taste tube was much more earthy and pungent than the creamy lemon-berry that I found in my Refined Taste flower review. Heavy cedar, soil, wet forest, and a light skunk note hit me first, which I attributed to the live resin infusion. Some manipulation and rolling before lighting would have improved my experience as these long, resin heavy joints had a tendency to “canoe.” The flavor wasn’t as pungent as the aroma indicated, serving a top note of strawberry and tangy citrus on the inhale with the soil and forest notes taking up the finish.
The playful cerebral high I found in my Refined Taste flower review was turned up to 10, morphing into a dazing, sub-psychedelic trip complete with altered time perception and a blunted headspace that left me ready to melt into the couch. Strong sensations of cascading warmth moved through my chest while pressure set in behind my eyes. I smoked this preroll early in the evening, and the effects were long lasting enough to take me through the rest of the night without needing to remedicate, a feat for a preroll.
The aroma coming from the Payton’s Pie tube was more vegetal and herbal with sage, cinnamon, oregano, leafy green, and roasted mushroom notes over a creamy dough that seemed to hold everything together. The lesson learned about some “structural prework” meant that this preroll burned more smoothly than the Refined Taste. The flavor came through sweeter at the start of the joint with notes of raspberry jam, apricot, and that aforementioned creamy dough. As the joint burned and the live resin began to melt, the flavor turned much more savory and herbal with oregano, mushrooms, and cinnamon appearing.
Euphoric waves of energy and excitement bordering on anxiety hit me before I finished the Payton’s Pie infused preroll. This excitement calmed into a playful silliness that stuck with me the rest of the night. My body felt profoundly light creating a sensation that I was floating. Payton’s Pie rode the line of a true hybrid, neither wearing me down or energizing me once the full effects had unfolded. I could have fit this preroll into my schedule anywhere.
Overall, Bullet Train has created something better than the sum of its parts. The addition of the live resin seemed to “turn up” the infused strains, enhancing the effects of the cultivars without altering them heavily.
