Fiji: Licences for hemp farms – Laws will be amended, says Attorney-General

The Fiji Times reports

Government will issue licences to those farmers who will take up industrial hemp farming in Fiji, said Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday at the 23rd A-G’s Conference in Nadi.

He said laws will be amended to decriminalise the planting of industrial hemp.

“Industrial hemp is different from medicinal hemp. There is a difference and we are not getting into medicinal hemp as it has more THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).”

Opposition Member of Parliament and lawyer Lynda Tabuya urged Government to hold wide consultations as Fijians may have strong religious beliefs on the issue.
