Review: Berry Tart by Savvy
Cannabis sativa is a fascinating plant with such a wide variety of expressions that the same genetics can display a variety of traits. These expressions, or phenotypes, can be surprisingly varied. Verano’s label Savvy has brought a phenotype of Wedding Cake, called Berry Tart to the Illinois market, so I headed to Zen Leaf Prospect Heights and picked up a sample.
Berry Tart is a phenotype of Wedding Cake, a hybrid cross of Triangle Kush and Animal Mints. This batch of flower tested at 0.571% THC, 29.821% THCa, and 31.848% total cannabinoids.
A handful of closely trimmed, pointed popcorn buds carried a vibrant turf-green base color, some remnant of orange hairs, and a speckling of small but visible trichomes. The flower was very dense, a combination of structure and dryness.
The aroma inside the mylar was highlighted by light top-end notes of strawberry and lemon, followed closely by a much more savory blend of earth, black pepper, and hops. The tight, dry flowers burned with a light harshness and big rips sent me into a cough almost every time. The flavor profile persisted through the slight harshness with notes of hops, berries, and black pepper appearing on the palate.
Berry Tart provided a heavy indica buzz that developed quickly following my bowl. A strong blanket of pressure covered my entire body, building into a true couchlock at the peak. My headspace was foggy but relaxed, and I was left unable to focus or motivate myself to do anything other than absorb whatever was on TV. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
