Review: Bomb Sauce by Northern Heights
While I’m a fan of fruit and cookie-forward sweet strains, my real love is the heavy savory tones delivered by classics, such as GMO. Oregonix’s new release from Northern Heights, Bomb Sauce, intrigued me, so I recently picked up an eighth at nuEra Champaign to see if the strain delivered the savory flavors I enjoy.
Bomb Sauce is a hybrid cross of GMO Cookies and Georgia Pie. This batch of flower tested at 1.08% CBCa, 1.69% CBGa, 0.57% Delta 9 THC, 32.51% THCa, and 35.86% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 2.21% of the total weight with β-caryophyllene, α-humulene, limonene, and linalool being the heaviest.
One large, dense, Christmas-tree-shaped cola made up the bulk of the eighth with four small popcorn flowers along for the ride. Deep-purple and black-sugar leaves were highlighted with thick pale-orange hairs and a sparkling trichome frost. The density was noticeable as these buds took some extra effort to pass through a grinder.
The aroma was a pungent savory blend of heavy earthy mushroom, garlic, wild onion, skunk, and a musk and leather combination at the finish. The flower burned notably smooth with even the densest hits carrying the flavor clearly and exhaling smoothly. On the palate the flavor turned even more savory. The mushroom, garlic, and wild onion from the aroma appeared at the front as the skunk and musk morphed into a roasty meat tone that carried through the finish.
Despite the savory flavors and GMO genetics, Bomb Sauce struck as much more of a center spectrum hybrid than a heavy indica. A short peak in energy directly followed the bowl, but this was short lived, becoming a relaxed mindset within 15 minutes. The physical effect was a slow building warm relaxation that relieved my muscles and compounded the mental relaxation more than 45 minutes. My headspace remained calm and anxiety free for a couple hours following a bowl of Bomb Sauce.
Northern Heights delivered on the savory flavors with Bomb Sauce and the anxiety relieving effects made for a strain I could enjoy anytime of day. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
