JOB SUMMARY
Serves as Deputy Director to Planning and Development Director; provides legal interpretation of applicable laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances as the pertain to Liquor and Marijuana Licensing, provides technical assistance with strategic planning and operational policy development and execution, provides complex administrative support, and serves as incharge manager in Director’s absence as needed.

Manages the process, systems, and staff of the Liquor and Marijuana Licensing Division; ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, codes, regulations, ordinances, and County internal policies.

Exercises direct, first-level supervision of positions, employees, operations and activities. Includes coordinating staff training, assigning and reviewing work, participating in the interview and selection process, making recommendations impacting pay, status and disciplinary action, evaluating performance independently or in conjunction with a higher level supervisor/manager, and approving time off and staff timesheets.

Manages and administers the licensing division relating to license systems and processes; interprets, applies, and ensures department compliance with applicable laws and codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the division.

Ensures all Marijuana related items presented to associated board and commissions are fully vetted, well prepared, and professional; includes all appropriate information that is needed and/or necessary.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including, but not limited to, appointed and elected officials, other County departments and staff, attorneys, consultants, and the general public as needed and/or required.

Supports the Department Director as needed; performs related duties as necessary and/or required.

3 years or more
Experience in reading, interpreting, and applying laws, statues, rules, and regulations.

Experience in regulated marijuana strongly preferred.
Experience working with government entities highly desirable.
