3 travellers arriving in Hong Kong from Brazil arrested for concealing HK$1.3 million worth of cocaine in their bodies

  • Two women and a man, who flew in from Brazil, were thought to have been recruited by same drug trafficking syndicate, according to customs
  • As of Wednesday morning, suspects discharged 154 pellets of suspected cocaine weighing about 1.6kg in total

Three travellers who flew into Hong Kong from Brazil this week were found to have HK$1.3 million (US$165,727) worth of cocaine concealed in their bodies and were arrested, a customs official said on Wednesday.

The two women and a man, believed to have been recruited by the same drug trafficking syndicate, were intercepted during customs clearance at Hong Kong International Airport on Monday and Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Tsang Yau-chuen of customs’ drug investigation bureau said the three suspects had flown into the city from Sao Paulo in Brazil via Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Bangkok in Thailand.
