NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 20 — Detectives have apprehended a licensed firearm holder in connection with last week’s fatal shooting in Nairobi’s Kaunda Street.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately revealed, was traced to his Murang’a home.

Although he admitted being in the CBD on the day of the incident, he denied shooting Mary Gatenya, 46, on February 13.

Authorities were considering the possibility the gun owner might have mistakenly discharged his firearm.

Ballistic experts were Monday night analyzing the weapon to determine whether it was the one that hit Gatenya.

His arrest comes four days after agents attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cordoned off a section of Kaunda Street in an attempt to triangulate a possible location for a sniper.

The agents who included crime scene investigators and forensic experts sealed off the street a day after a pathologist examination on a victim who collapsed at the scene revealed she may have been shot at from an elevated angle.

Police ruled out the assassination aspect in the death.

Initially, the 46-year-old was thought to have died of natural causes by police and witnesses at the scene.
