Noida: Seven people, including a woman, were arrested in Greater Noida on Sunday for smuggling more than 500 kg of marijuana which, police said, was meant for agents who would sell it to college and university students in Delhi-NCR. Cops claimed the marijuana consignment, worth over Rs 1.5 crore, was brought to the city from Odisha.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohd Azad, a resident of Delhi, Fayyaz and her mother, both residents of Noida’s Sector 20, Rishiram, a resident of Bahlolpur, Sajan and Rajkumar Shah from Bihar, and Yogesh Yadav, a resident of Aligarh.
“Acting on a tip-off, a team from Beta -2 police station intercepted a truck parked on a vacant plot in the Sigma-1 area on Sunday night. Sajan, Rajkumar and Yogesh were inside the truck and they had come to meet the four others,” DCP (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan said.
“Upon checking, our men found 502 kg of marijuana hidden inside,” he added.
The drugs, worth over Rs 1.5 crore, were hidden behind metal sheets inside the truck, the DCP said. “Apart from the vehicle, our men seized another small truck and a bike from the possession of the accused.”
During interrogation, the accused told the cops that the marijuana consignment was brought from Odisha and was being taken to two godowns in Bahlolpur and Bisrakh villages, respectively, of the district.
