Police have arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver in Raiwaqa earlier this week after he was allegedly found in possession of several zip-lock bags containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine and dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Chief Operations Officer Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says there were other arrests made in Waitabu Settlement in Naitasiri, where a 27-year-old and a 49-year-old farmer were allegedly found with plants believed to be marijuana.

A/ACP Driu says in the Northern Division, the Labasa Taskforce continues to make arrests of those involved in the illicit drug trade.

He says two men aged 19 and 23 years were also arrested following the discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana in the Northern Division.

He adds that a 25-year-old farmer was arrested in Seaqaqa after he was allegedly found with several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The Chief Operations Officer says all seized plants and substances will be sent for analysis.

He says the arrests were made possible through the support of the community through the sharing of information.
