The City of Goleta appealed a Santa Barbara County-approved cannabis cultivation site, delaying the forward motion of the project. Santa Barbara County approved the 17-acre White Light Cannabis Cultivation Project September 16. The site is located just outside of the Goleta city limits near the Winchester Canyon Road neighborhood. The City of Goleta appealed the project after it was approved, citing concerns related to potential well water hazards, odor and environmental impact.

At its meeting Tuesday, the Walnut Creek City Council said it wants to allow recreational cannabis sales for adults, at least as far as delivery goes, but will hold off until next year before taking up the issue of storefront sales within city limits. All five council members agreed the city shouldn’t explore allowing commercial cultivation or preparation of cannabis within the city.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger had pushed hard for the funding, even as community advocates sought to shut down any new funds going to the Sheriff’s Department. Los Angeles County officials agreed on Tuesday, Oct. 5, to spend $5 million to crack down on illegal cannabis grow operations in the Antelope Valley and dispensaries in unincorporated areas countywide as part of a $39.3 billion budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
