People are distrustful. In May 2019, Gallup pollsters asked Americans about their trust in federal agencies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ranked near the bottom, beating only the Veterans Administration (VA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Only 44% of respondents rated the FDA as doing an excellent or good job. In turn, 33% viewed the FDA’s performance as “fair” and 22% ranking the FDA as “poor.

CBS reports if law enforcement can’t tell the difference between hemp & cannabis. AUSTIN, Texas — The Travis County District Attorney announced 32 felony marijuana cases were dismissed late Wednesday after discussing how the new hemp law would impact local law enforcement. “If we can’t prove our case, we need to dismiss,” said Travis County DA, Margaret Moore.

The State News House Service says after unanimously agreeing to them last week, cannabis regulators on Tuesday released rewritten rules that would govern both sides of the legal marijuana world, proposing regulations to eliminate an annual fee for medical patients, set the stage for home delivery, of and marijuana vaping lounges.

The chemical residue of marijuana has been found in incense burners that were used during funerary rites in western China in about 500 BC, reports Reuters. The finding proves what may be the oldest evidence of smoking marijuana for its mind-altering properties. The marijuana residue was found on 10 wooden braziers containing stones with burn marks that were discovered in eight tombs at the Jirzankal Cemetery site in the Pamir Mountains in China’s Xinjiang region, scientists said on Wednesday.

UPDATE REGARDING VISITING PATIENTS IN MAINE. On June 6, 2019, Governor Mills signed An Act to Ensure Access to Medical Cannabis for Visiting Qualifying Patients. The emergency bill, which went into effect immediately, provided that medical marijuana patients visiting Maine would no longer be required to obtain certification from a Maine-based medical provider or designate a registered caregiver or dispensary on the blue form in order to obtain medical marijuana.

On Tuesday (July 2) Aleafia Health (TSX: ALEF,OTCQX:ALEAF) announced that starting in August 2019 it will begin shipping its own branded medical cannabis oils to CannaPacific, its Australia-based partner, for distribution in the Australian market. Aleafia Health owns a 10 percent stake in the Macleay Valley-based licensed producer. As part of the new permit from Health Canada, the cannabis producer can also export medical cannabis extract products such as drops and sprays.

Retailers and brands, and in turn consumers, are getting taxed at rates that would make Sweden blush. Californians are paying up to 45% tax rates on cannabis purchases — nearly 40% higher than the standard 6% state sales tax.

NPR report 3 July 2019………… Massachusetts cities and towns with marijuana businesses are getting revenue from a three percent tax on retail pot sales. The top cannabis tax earner in western Massachusetts from February to April is Northampton, pulling in more than $530,000. Great Barrington was next in line with nearly $226,000.

Ganjapreneur reports. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has signed the medical cannabis expansion bill which will increase the number of industry licenses in the state, allow for home delivery, and lowers the threshold for patients to qualify for the program, according to an NBC4 report. The Democratic governor had backed the expansion plan after lawmakers were unable to legalize cannabis for adult use during the session.
