The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 ( 2018 Farm Bill ) legalized hemp by removing the crop and its derivatives from the definition of marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and by providing a detailed framework for the cultivation of hemp. The 2018 Farm Bill gives the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulatory authority over hemp cultivation at the federal level.

The New York State Catholic Conference on Monday indicated its opposition to a bill that would legalize the sale and use of recreational marijuana. “New York’s medical, education and law enforcement communities have urged the state to reject recreational marijuana legalization, and so does the New York State Catholic Conference,” the conference said in a March 23 memo.

Multistate marijuana operator Harvest Health & Recreation announced on Friday it closed on its previously announced $25.5 million purchase of Pennsylvania medical cannabis company Franklin Labs. The closing comes a day after Harvest revealed that it would no longer buy Chicago-based Verano Holdings, which was for a time was one of the biggest merger and acquisitions announced in the U.S. cannabis industry.

Melinda Burns writes for “edhat” Santa Barbara (CA). Some cannabis operators in Santa Barbara County still don’t pay taxes, but there are signs that the county is closing in on them. Of 106 licensed cannabis growers and processors in county unincorporated areas, 15 failed to report their gross revenues during the most recent quarter, from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, according to a recent update for the county Board of Supervisors.

Obviously it’s hard to tell exactly when it comes to rise in demand on the black market but a Manhattan cannabis dealer (who asked to remain anonymous) when talking to the NY Post said, “Business is up a good 50 percent” The NY Post reports… “Business is up a good 50 percent,” said one Manhattan dealer (who asked to remain anonymous).

The report goes on to say. The decision casts serious doubt on the feasibility of complying with the April 30 deadline the Supreme Court set for the legalization of cannabis. Senate commissions approved a legalization bill earlier this month, but the document still needs to go through the Senate plenary, the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house) and signed into law by the president.

This time, activists in Missouri announced on Saturday that their effort to put a cannabis legalization measure on the ballot has “no practical way” of succeeding amid the pandemic. In recent weeks, the outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in business closures and increased calls for social distancing in states across the country. The Santa Maria Times reports… fter wrestling with reports and public opinion through hours of hearings, the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission drafted a resolution addressing some of the issues surrounding the cannabis industry that will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors to consider enacting as ordinance amendments. The commission continued other issues indefinitely after running out of time at the end of the nearly all-day hearing Wednesday.

It’s reported that the Home Office is allowing LYPHE to arrange imports form the Netherlands with as little fuss as possible to secure supply of medical cannabis for particularly vunerable patients. How they reinvent themselves as a publisher, information provider and lead generator will, we suggest, be much harder when the events revenue pot simmers down.
