This long-awaited proposal is comprehensive and includes many of the criminal justice reforms provided in the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act, which passed the House of Representatives last December, and provides ample deference to the laws already in place in the majority of states that have already legalized marijuana for either medical or adult use.

Nevada Cannabis Consumption Lounges Legalization. On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, Nevada’s Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) approved regulations for cannabis consumption lounge operations and the process to apply for a consumption lounge. Just a year before, the legislature had passed Assembly Bill 341, which authorized cannabis consumption lounges. Adults over the age of 21 will be allowed to consume cannabis recreationally outside of a private residence.

MJ Biz reports. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a legislation package that will regulate hemp-derived delta-8 THC. 2021-HNB-4517. The new regulations, which take effect Oct. 11, also will restrict sales to channels approved for state-legal marijuana, banning the products from being sold in unlicensed retail stores. Through the legislation signed by the governor Tuesday, delta-8 THC products will be covered by Michigan law and regulated by the state’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA).

VPR reports. In a Wednesday meeting the Board of Forensic Science made regulatory changes in light of Marijuana legalization and was briefed on a backlog of firearms and toxicology cases. Board members amended one regulation to incorporate the state’s definition of marijuana under the new law. They also pushed forward another regulation on field testing, allowing the Department of Forensic Science to consider approving other types of field tests.

Arizona residents with low-level marijuana convictions can have their records wiped clean under a state expungement program launched this week.
