Study finds cannabis use reaches ‘historic highs’ among college students

College-aged adults are using cannabis at the highest rates since the 1980s and daily use has increased dramatically in just the past five years, according to a new study. The 2020 Monitoring the Future (MTF) Panel Study found that 44% of college students reported using cannabis in 2020, compared to 38% in 2015. In addition, the study found that 8% of college students reported using cannabis on a daily or near daily basis in 2020, as opposed to only 5% in 2015.

Starting this October, veterinarians licensed in Nevada can recommend and administer hemp and cannabidiol products containing not more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol without fear of sanction from the state licensing board. Earlier this year, Gov. Steve Sisolak signed Assembly Bill 101, making Nevada the first state to legalize the use of cannabinoids as a veterinary treatment.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will hear an update on cannabis tax collection in the last quarter of the fiscal year 2020-2021 during its regular meeting on Tuesday. During the last fiscal quarter that ended June 30, the county collected about $3.8 million in gross tax receipts paid by 58 operators. According to a board letter, this is a 34% decrease from the third quarter of the last fiscal year.
