Prison inmates can’t legally possess marijuana under California’s law allowing recreational pot, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday in overturning a lower court that found prisoners could have the drug as long as they didn’t consume it. The justices said the 2019 appellate court ruling allowing prisoners to have up to 1 ounce (28.5 grams) of marijuana went against common sense.

On July 19, 2021, Governor Kate Brown signed HB 3000 , a comprehensive bill that gives the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) significantly more authority and oversight over the hemp industry – including the production and sale of products containing hemp-derived Delta-8 THC. HB 3000 appears to have been passed with the aim of protecting consumers from intoxicating marijuana products that contain (previously) unregulated and/or artificially created cannabinoids

A new study conducted in Virginia has found that the general public currently consumes more cannabis than cancer patients. The Virginia Commonwealth University of Massey Cancer Center (VCU) published a study in the journal Cancer on August 13, entitled “Cannabis use among cancer survivors in the United States: Analysis of a nationally representative sample,” which analyzed data from 19,055 people over a four-year period.

Hemp Grower reports… Seventeen migrant employees who were hired for temporary work on a hemp farm have sued the employer for a variety of mistreatments, including partially unpaid wages, unsafe housing conditions and verbal abuse. Their employer was Colt Jamison Hansen, who does business under various entities, according to the lawsuit, including WestCoast Growers LLC, Topshelf Hemp LLC, and Fire Hemp LLC.

POCATELLO – John Morgan McComas, 25, of Idaho Falls, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for trafficking lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael M. Gonzalez, Jr. announced today. McComas was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 28, 2020. According to court records, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at McComas’ Idaho Falls residence in April 2019.

Former Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr was arrested Friday in connection to a federal grand jury indictment accusing him of accepting close to $60,000 in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for favorable decisions concerning commercial marijuana via his role on the City Council. FBI agents took Kerr into custody at his home while executing a search warrant Friday morning, FBI spokesperson Laura Eimiller told the Daily Press.
