Police Officer’s Conviction Upheld for Setting Up Strip Club Cocaine Bust

A Columbus, Ohio police officer convicted of framing a strip club owner for possession of cocaine isn’t entitled to a new trial based on the prosecutor’s remarks to the jury bolstering the testimony of a government witness, a federal appeals court ruled.

The prosecutor’s statement, “I think Allie Mills was giving it to you straight,” was improper because “blunt comments” of personal belief constitute improper vouching, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled in an unpublished opinion by Judge John B. Nalbandian.

But any possible prejudice to defendant Steven Rosser was “ameliorated” by the court’s jury instruction …
