17 December… A New Mexico state judge ruled on Thursday that medical cannabis patients cannot purchase the same amount as non-patients when recreational-use sales begin. Second Judicial District Court Judge Benjamin Chavez, in his written ruling, dismissed a claim from a medical cannabis patient that medical cannabis patients should be afforded the same purchase limits as what is laid out in the state’s Cannabis Regulation Act, which went into effect in June.

Finnish police suspect a man grew and sold cannabis on a professional basis for years, earning some 300,000 euros. Western Uusimaa police said on Thursday that they are investigating a case in which an Espoo man allegedly grew cannabis crops worth up to 300,000 euros on a detached house property. According to police, the man’s cannabis plants produced 35-70 kilograms of marijuana.

On Thursday, the Cannabis Control Board conditionally approved a buy-out that would see MedMen, one of ten medical cannabis license holders in New York, give up 86 percent of its business in the state to privately held Ascend Wellness Holdings. The board granted its approval of the $73 million investment pending review by the state Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).

THE head of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) says it is now only a matter of weeks before it publishes further details on the CBD products and companies which will be allowed to remain on the UK market. At an FSA board meeting last week CEO Emily Miles said one of the reasons it had missed its March 31 deadline was due to the ‘quality of applications being lower than anticipated’.

Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) is “still pretty irritated” that marijuana banking reform was omitted from a defense bill last week —apparently at the behest of Democratic Senate leadership. But he said in an interview with Marijuana Moment that the congressional debate that subsequently ensued has advanced the cause nonetheless.

Members of Virginia’s Joint Commission on Cannabis Oversight decided this week in favor expediting the timeline for the launch of adult-use marijuana sales. By a margin of 7 to 1, members voted to recommend allowing state-licensed sales to begin on January 1, 2023 — one-year ahead of schedule. Facilities currently serving the medical-use market would be permitted to also engage in adult-use sales under the plan, which still must be voted on next year by state lawmakers.
