Australian General Election, Legalise Cannabis Party Candidates Profiles: Suzette Luyken

The 5th in our series of candidate profiles

A couple of weeks to go and a general election is in full swing in Australia.

This time last year the Legalise Cannabis Party in Australia was comprised of a number of disparate state-based organisations.
This year, the party for the first time , is presenting a unified national front for the 2022 general election and as they have virtually received no coverage from the mainstream media, here at Cannabis Law Report, we thought it might be an idea to get to know the candidates on their own terms.
We have forwarded all candidates in the party exactly the same questionnaire with a number of questions that will give readers and voters an opportunity to learn a bit more about their candidates, who are in the main, standing for the Australian Senate

YOUR BIO

I will be contesting the upcoming federal election in the Senate for Queensland, working to get a voice in Parliament to help change cannabis laws and keep some focus on the issue.
Suzette believes every Australian should have the choice to consume cannabis socially or medically without being treated like criminals.
“I would like to see a better system in place for medical users. Starting with a push for the government to subsidise the cost of products as was recommended in the Barriers Inquiry 2020”.
Legalising cannabis would allow patients, just like Suzette, to grow their own plants at a tiny fraction of the current cost if they so desired.
I am strong believer in the healing properties of consuming raw cannabis and hemp seed, which is gaining an international reputation for preventing ill health,I believe medical cannabis could prevent long term health issues and help relieve any future burden on the Queensland health budget.
However, one of the biggest bug-bears for both adult social users and patients, is the ‘Random’ Roadside Drug Testing for cannabis, specifically the test for mere presence of THC and not for any impairment. This is unfair, unjust and unreasonable. Especially for patients using legally prescribed cannabis medications containing THC.
The Legalise Cannabis Australia Party want this to change, and they are sure you do too.
The Party wants to see amendments to the drug driving laws giving medical cannabis patients the same rights as all other patients taking prescribed medication. Suzette is proud to be able to represent you, in the federal parliament, for Queensland and for long overdue cannabis law reform.

WHAT MADE YOU STAND?

The draconian laws on cannabis & hemp are outdated and need to be changed.
