Psychedelic drug DOB seized for first time in Bangladesh – Shipped From Poland Say Investigators

The Dhaka Tribune reports

Shipment bought using cryptocurrency on dark web from Poland, says narcotics control official

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) claims to have confiscated a shipment of the psychedelic drug DOB or dimethoxybromoamphetamine worth Tk10 lakh for the first time in Bangladesh.

The agency claims that this drug has a consumer-base among Khulna University (KU) and Dhaka University (DU) students.

The “dangerous” drug was smuggled into Bangladesh from Poland through a courier service, the agency’s assistant director of the Dhaka Metro North region, Mehedi Hasan informed.

DOB is a “Grade A” drug banned in the country as per the Narcotics Control Act, 2020. Although DOB looks a lot like LSD, it is more harmful and excessive consumption can lead to death.

How investigators found the drug

At a press conference, Fazlur Rahman, additional director (AD) of the DNC, said: “The DNC has been tracing the ‘new’ drug paddlers since August. A key word ‘stash’ used by the drug traders drew our attention to the new drug.”

However, the agency was not aware of the new drug at the time. Following their LSD bust, the investigators came to know about DOB.

During a raid on Sunday, the agency seized five blotters of LSD from the Elephant Road branch of Sundarban Courier Service. During the raid, the law enforcers learned that the ring leader was in Khulna.

The DNC then conducted another raid in Boyra Mujgonni of Khulna city on Monday and held Md Asif Ahmed Shuvo, 31.
