Review: Stir Infused Drink Mixes by Zero Proof
One of these fastest growing categories in cannabis is the infused beverage, and producers have developed a laundry list of different methods to get THC into a drinkable format. One of the newest comes to us in the form of a Stir Drink Mix line from Curaleaf’s new Zero Proof label. I recently stopped into Curaleaf Skokie and picked up the Berry Cherry, Peach Orange, and Mango Lime mix packs to review.
Stir Infused Drink Mixes come with 6 sachets of drink mix with 5mg of THC per sachet for a total of 30mg of THC per package. All three flavors have the same ingredients; water, sugar, natural flavors, sodium citrate, citric acid, malic acid, macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, sodium gluconate, ascorbic acid, sodium benzoate, cannabis oil, and EDTA.
The instructions on each sachet suggest mixing into carbonated water, and I found this made the mixes much more drinkable than flat water. The small sachets came filled with an easy flowing but sticky liquid, and it was simple to open the top slightly and add the mix to a bottle, as long as I accounted for a bit of fizz up. The flavoring was quite strong, and seeking a higher dose was difficult because multi-dosing the same water created an overwhelmingly bitter flavor.
All three flavors were very sweet and artificial fruit heavy at the front of the palate. The Berry Cherry leaned more into the cherry tone reminiscent of a cherry Icee. The Mango Lime was far and away the most natural with fresh mango notes cut by hints of acidic lime. The Peach Orange was my favorite of the three, carrying a tangy artificial orange tone that evoked the classic orange-drink mix, Tang, with light hints of peach. A strong bitterness finished on the end of all three flavors.
Because my high tolerance, I drank a few back-to-back fizzy drinks to feel a considerable headchange, but after 3-4 in a row, a noticeable shift set in. Fifteen minutes post drinking sesh, a headband effect hit my brow alongside heavier eyelids and a relaxed carefree headspace. This positive mood and body buzz stuck with me for just under 45 minutes, and the entire experience was much closer to a “smoke” high than “edible” high.
I enjoyed the effect profile from the nano emulsification tech being used here and found them stronger than the effects of standard edibles in a milligram-to-milligram comparison. I hope to see formulations like this in higher doses on the market soon. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
