Countries that have legalized CBD

There are many terms used when people talk about the legitimacy of CBD oil. Words like marijuana, hemp, and THC can often easily determine whether CBD oil or another product is legally available for consumption and purchase. But why is this important? All Cannabidiol products look and taste the same, right? Well, not really. In this article, we will talk about the different types of cannabis, what makes a cannabis product legal and where CBD is legal.

Let’s talk about Cannabis

The use of high THC marijuana for recreational purposes is prohibited in most countries of the world. However, many countries have adopted decriminalization policies to make it a non-criminal offense. Others received much harsher punishments. For example, in some Asian countries, possession of marijuana is not only illegal but can lead to imprisonment for several years. In much of the Middle East, owning a very small amount can lead to more severe penalties.

In the United States, for example, legal status varies from state to state. Hemp cultivation was officially legalized thanks to the 2018 Agriculture Bill. This 2018 Agriculture Bill has allowed many farmers to grow certain types of cannabis plants that are used to produce cannabis products from cannabidiol. This compound is known to be made from hemp and is widely used in the United States in the production of CBD oil, mainly used as a partial treatment for various ailments. Many organizations support and advocate for the safe use of marijuana across the country.

What Makes CBD Legal?

The legitimacy of cannabis oil for medical use or as a food supplement in Europe, in general, varies from country to country. Cannabis laws around the world can vary in terms of storage, distribution, how marijuana can be consumed, and what diseases it can be used for. However, according to EU law, CBD oil cannot exceed 0.2% THC7.

This applies to all countries of the European Union. This means that the oils and other products must be produced using the CBD-rich variant of cannabis, namely the Cannabis Sativa L (CSL) variant. The cultivation of CSL varieties is officially legal in the EU, provided that they are listed in the “General Catalog of Agricultural Plant Varieties” and that the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of the plant does not exceed 0.2%.

However, some states have specific cannabis laws, which make cannabidiol partially legal or not legal at all. We recommend that you always consult your local authorities before purchasing CBD oil.
