New England Regional Cannabis Industry Reporter Grown In

Grown In, the cannabis industry newsletter providing the business and socio-economic story of weed business, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover the cannabis industry in the New England region.

Who We Are

Grown In is an independent publication that reports on the business, economics, and social impact of the cannabis business. Starting in the Midwest, our reporting has already moved governments and businesses to change their operations through original, investigative reporting, and we plan to keep peeling back the layers of America’s fastest growing industry.

Responsibilities

This reporter will be our beat reporter for New England states where cannabis sales are legal. Coverage includes a balance of the state regulations, industry lawsuits, interviews of regional business leaders, as well as the social advocates attempting to influence the industry’s rules and makeup. The reporter will be expected to occasionally travel and report throughout their region to visit businesses, events, and to better understand the dynamics of this fast-changing business environment. In addition, Grown In reporters are expected to adhere to the publication’s editorial guidelines and ethical standards.

This reporter will need to generate their own stories, sometimes on breaking news, sometimes their own in-depth stories investigated on their own accord that connects to the big picture and holds decision-makers accountable. A week of reporting would normally be two breaking/beat reporting stories twice a week (for a twice a week newsletter), one enterprise story a week, and the occasional daily breaking story when there is major, regional industry news.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have reporting experience in a newsroom, the ability to meet deadlines, and strong organizational skills. Knowledge of or experience with cannabis is not a requirement. We are looking for candidates with:

  • At least two years of reporting experience covering business or government.
  • Familiarity and experience with social media.
  • Comfort or experience working with data, research, and reports.
  • Interest in accountability reporting and investigative reporting.
  • Experience with building sources and generating story ideas.
  • The ability to write clearly, cleanly, and on deadline for quick-take, daily and longer-form stories.

Grown In is an inclusive workplace and encourages people of all backgrounds and life experiences to apply. If you feel you have something to bring to this role that’s not described above, or you do not exactly meet these requirements, we look forward to hearing from you anyway.
