Uber Eats announced its partnership with Leafly, Germany’s cannabis legalization plans leaked, and the White House drug czar said cannabis should be rescheduled.

Let’s dive into this week’s cannanews.

Uber Eats to Bring Cannabis Delivery to Toronto

Toronto residents can now order more than just food through their Uber Eats app. Earlier this month, Uber Eats announced its new partnership with cannabis delivery service Leafly. The union will allow Toronto residents 19+ to order cannabis from their local dispensary using the Uber Eats app.

Uber Eats’ cannabis delivery force comprises staff from Ontario’s CannShell program. This ensures that only trained and qualified individuals handle this precious cargo.

The initiative is expected to provide another major boost to Toronto’s already popular cannabis marketplace. In just the last year, more than 120 new cannabis dispensaries opened in the Toronto area.

Germany’s Cannabis Legalization Plans Leak

Earlier this week, the details of Germany’s long-awaited cannabis legalization plan leaked! Let’s dive into its details.

Why You Should Get Your Medical Marijuana Card

Veriheal has satisfied millions of patients nationwide by giving them access to these benefits

  • Larger purchase limits
  • Peace of mind
  • Enhanced legal protection
  • Access to higher potency strains
  • Save up to 25% on cannabis purchases
  • Skip the line at the dispensary

The leaked plan allows adults to possess up to 20 grams of cannabis and grow up to two cannabis plants at home. Young adults aged 18-21 can only purchase cannabis products with a maximum of 10% THC content. Those over 22, meanwhile, can only purchase cannabis products with a 15% or lower THC content.

The decriminalization blueprints call for the legalization of consumption sites in the vein of Amsterdam’s popular tourist destinations. It also allows German coffee houses to apply for consumption site licenses.

The leaked plan’s final key point addresses the issue of cannabis cultivation. To avoid conflicts with international laws, the leak revealed that the German government plans to keep all cannabis production domestic.

White House Drug Czar Backs Cannabis Rescheduling

Rahul Gupta, White House drug czar, holds the all-important job of shaping America’s federal drug policy. During an interview with NPR earlier this week, Gupta weighed in on President Joe Biden’s plan to review cannabis’ Schedule I status.

Gupta urged Americans to look at the way cannabis prohibition has unjustly and disproportionately affected communities of color. The one-sided damage done to these communities, Gupta said, is ultimately over nothing more than a non-violent offense. As such, Gupta said, the upcoming review needs to “follow the science and, at the same time, ensure that our science and evidence filters into criminal justice as well.”

This isn’t the first time that Gupta has voiced his support for cannabis either. In an interview with a Minnesota news station earlier this month, Gupta stood firmly behind cannabis’ value as a medical tool.
