Muskegon dispensary to open The Bowl outdoor consumption areaPosted by On


MUSKEGON — People who want to partake in celebrating the 4/20 marijuana holiday on Thursday have a new outdoor option in downtown Muskegon that’s conveniently located next to a dispensary. 

The open-air space, dubbed The Bowl, will be open for use from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, starting tomorrow, adjacent to cannabis microbusiness Indigrow LLC, located at the corner of West Clay Avenue and 8th Street. The vacant lot shares common ownership with the Indigrow facility, according to property records.  

Crews have installed berms around the perimeter of the space to obscure The Bowl from public view to comply with state and local law. Indigrow co-owner Karen Kekelik expects other landscaping to be installed around the space once the weather improves. The space also features picnic tables, board games and yard games for people to use while they’re in the lot, which is approximately 2,800 square feet. 

“Think of it like your backyard,” Kekelik said. “You just walk in, you’re able to smoke and then you can go ahead and walk downtown. We always use the analogy that we should be like a microbrewery. How weird would it be if you went to a brewery and you had to wait until you got home to try it?”

The operation of The Bowl appears to be leveraging state laws regarding cannabis consumption on private property. Kekelink said the lot is separately owned from the dispensary operation, meaning that Indigrow did not need to…
