IDPH opens petition window to add cannabis medical conditions
As required by the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is providing notice to the public of the annual period for submitting petitions for the addition of debilitating medical conditions to the list prescribed. Illinois residents may petition IDPH to add debilitating medical conditions or diseases to those listed in the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act starting June 1.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. June 1, 2023, and ending at 11:59 p.m. June 30, 2023, IDPH will accept petitions on forms and in a manner prescribed by IDPH. Petitions received outside the annual petition period will not be considered and will be returned to the sender.
Petitions will be accepted in hard copy format as specified in the Petition to Add a Debilitating Condition. The forms and instructions are available here. The current list of debilitating medical conditions can be found here. Petitions must be sent to: dph.medicalcannabis@illinois.gov before 11:59 p.m. June 30, 2023
As of June 22, 2021, the Medical Cannabis Patient Program is no longer mailing medical cannabis registration cards to current patients and new program applicants.
