New Year celebrations: 8,000 kg waste collected from Bengaluru CBD | Bangalore NewsPosted by On

The civic body-run Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) on Monday said it collected eight tonnes of waste from the city’s Central Business District (CBD) where New Year celebrations were held on a massive scale.

According to officials, huge amounts of waste were collected from M G Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, Richmond Road, Saint Marks Road, and Kasturba Road, among others. About 80 poura karmikas (civic employees), three supervisors, one compactor, and seven auto tippers were deployed to collect the waste.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in a press statement said mostly plastic covers, footwear, liquor bottles, and clothes were picked up during the garbage-collection drive.

“I believe the crowd was educated and there were dustbins placed in the roads for convenience. However, most of the garbage that we have collected was outside these bins. Had we not collected the waste, it would have affected vehicle movement on Monday,” a BBMP official said.
