Can I use RSO without getting high?

Getting the right answers in your cannabis journey can be tricky. But with The Cannigma’s Ask the Expert, you can find questions from readers like you, answered by a real cannabis pharmacist.

Question: I am looking for Rick Simpson oil without the “high” Do you offer such a product that is effective in fighting cancer?

Answer:

Unfortunately there’s no scientific evidence to support the use of RSO to combat cancer.

By Rick Simpson’s own definition, RSO is high in THC and thus inherently impairing. You can’t separate THC from the high. But you could try an RSO-style extract that’s rich in other cannabinoids (like CBD or CBG), or you could try simply taking a more traditional cannabis extract, like an infused oil or edibles, to mimic the large doses achieved with RSO. RSO, or as I like to call it Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO), can technically be made with a CBD-rich variety (Type-III) which wouldn’t have the same psychotropic properties as high-THC RSO. So you could consider looking for that at the store, or even making your own RSO with hemp flower.

Additionally, it’s still generally agreed that it’s the cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis that combat cancer, but be warned that many RSO products may not be as full spectrum as marketing materials claim.

RSO is not the only product rich in cannabinoids and terpenes that could potentially be leveraged to fight cancer. However with the large doses Rick Simpson recommends, RSO is concentrated enough to make consumption more manageable.

Hope that helps, and good luck.
